About the Journal
The African Journal of Tropical Medicine and Biomedical Research (AJTMBR) is a multidisciplinary, international, and peer-reviewed journal published by the College of Health Sciences, Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria. It serves as a premier platform for researchers across Africa to share their findings and contribute to the global discourse on tropical medicine and biomedical sciences.
Focus and Scope
AJTMBR is dedicated to disseminating innovative, relevant, and impactful research in all aspects of tropical medicine, biomedical sciences, and related fields. The journal welcomes original research articles, reviews, editorials, commentaries, short reports, case reports, and letters to the editor.
We publish contributions across a broad spectrum of disciplines, including but not limited to:
- Basic Medical Sciences/Allied Health – Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Psychology, Nursing, etc.
- Basic Clinical and Clinical Sciences – Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dental Surgery, Child Health, Laboratory Sciences, Pharmacology, Radiology, Community Medicine, etc.
- Social Sciences & Health – Research exploring the socio-economic and environmental determinants of health, particularly in the African context.
We prioritize research that applies the principles of primary health care in the prevention and treatment of diseases in Africa, emphasizing public health, disease control, and health system strengthening.
Publication & Processing Fees
To cover the costs of peer review, editorial processes, and online hosting, AJTMBR charges a publication/processing fee of ₦40,000 (Forty Thousand Naira) per manuscript. For authors outside Nigeria, the equivalent amount will be charged based on the prevailing exchange rate at the time of payment.
Open Access Policy
AJTMBR is committed to open access publishing, ensuring that all research is freely available without subscription fees or access barriers. By adopting an open-access model, we aim to enhance the visibility, accessibility, and impact of research, promoting knowledge exchange and scientific collaboration across Africa and beyond.
Authors transfer copyrights to the journal. All content published by the journal is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY-NC 4.0), allowing unrestricted non-commercial use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
Editorial Notices & Publication Frequency
AJTMBR is published biannually in July and December.
Subscription & Fees (Hard Copies)
- Nigeria: ₦2,000 per volume (2 issues), ₦1,000 per single copy.
- West Africa: $60 (post-free).
- United Kingdom: £60 (post-free).
- Rest of the World (including USA): $120 (post-free).
- Reprints: $60 (inclusive of postage).
Payment should be made via cheque, payable to the African Journal of Tropical Medicine and Biomedical Research, and addressed to the Editor-in-Chief.
Archiving & Digital Preservation
To ensure long-term accessibility and preservation of published research, AJTMBR is included in LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) archival systems. This guarantees that all published content remains available in perpetuity, even in the event of journal discontinuation or platform changes.
